Jessica Cox, a site coordinator, tells the story of one girl who was in need of nearly every resource CIS Auburn could give her. At just six years old, she had experienced domestic violence, the loss of a parent, and homelessness. She was behind in school, had behavior issues and poor attendance.
Jessica spent three hours a week with her, doing everything from reading to painting to simply talking. CIS Auburn provided her with clothing, shoes, food on the weekends, and support for the holidays. By the end of the year, it was clear all of these things were making a positive impact on her academic performance.
