Arlene Pierini the Auburn Executive Director says, “Public education forms our country’s foundation for providing opportunity to young people from all walks of life. Some children face tremendous hurdles that make focusing on school very difficult. I am passionate about my work for Communities In Schools of Auburn whose mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.”
With a modest beginning in 2001, Arlene became the first Executive Director of Communities In Schools of Auburn. She has overseen the affiliate’s development from an all volunteer organization operating on a yearly budget of $17,000 to currently leading the organization with 6 half time site coordinators, 15 school staff contracted for after school math programs, numerous partners and a budget of $268,000 serving 5,406 students in need.
Arlene was born and raised in Eastern Washington. After obtaining her AA degree from Wenatchee Valley College and BA from Washington State University, she received a Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho Law School. Arlene served as a law clerk to the Honorable Watt Prather in Coeur d’Alene before becoming an associate with the Ogden, Ogden and Murphy law firm in Wenatchee. After leaving practice to focus on her young family, she volunteered in numerous education related committees and organizations before accepting the CIS Executive Director position. Her son and daughter are graduates of Auburn High.
